The Joy that isn’t shared, I’ve heard, dies young.
Anne Sexton, ‘Welcome Morning’
PRAXIS ALUMNI
As the Praxis welcomes a sixth cohort of participants in the Fall of 2024, we want to be intentional about connecting with each other beyond our Praxis journeys. We want to share the joys - and frustrations - we’ve experienced learning to integrate this with God life into our systems of living. We want to continue in the life of abundance, together.
Opportunities to do just that are on the way. If you have ideas, needs, or hopes…just let us know. Upcoming opportunities are below.
Ordinary Time Retreat for Praxis Alumni
July 24 | 8:30 AM | A neighborhood in Lone Tree, CO
Please note: Only 15 spots are available for this retreat. There is a suggested donation of $60 to attend.
Bermuda Cottages | Alfred Birdsley
Outside of the church seasons of Advent, Christmastide, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost, sits Ordinary Time. The former take us through the story of Jesus. The latter tells the story of the people of God. The former is full of the miracle, revelation, resurrection and revolution of Christ. The latter invites us into the great community of believers, seeking to bear witness to the presence of Christ in our daily lives. Ordinary time is when we might ask,
“Can it be that God will actually move into our neighborhood?” (1 Kings 8:27 MSG)
Ordinary time reminds us that all of life is full of God’s withness. It is an expansive space (half the calendar year!) of graciously noticing the holiness of our ordinary, lived existence. It is when our awareness of what we see, taste, hear, smell and touch might deepen our awareness of the presence of Christ. Borrowing from the poem “Small Things” by Anna Kamienska,
It’s not from the grand, but from every tiny thing, that it grows enormous, as if Someone was building Eternity, as a swallow its nest, out of clumps of moments.
Join us July 24 at 8:30 AM for an Ordinary Time retreat in Lone Tree, CO. We’ll begin around the table with breakfast together, and take time with each of our five senses to notice ways in which we are encountering God, or being invited to. There will be plenty of time and space for quiet and solitude. We’ll conclude by 1 pm. Register below!
Sliding Scale Suggested Registration Donation
Normally, our seasonal retreats cost $75 for an individual to attend. To make sure this opportunity is accessible to all Praxis alumni, we want to try a suggested donation of $60, with the sliding scale being $30 - $100. If this scale is outside of your budget, give what you can. If your budget outsizes this scale, consider giving more. Or, consider setting up a recurring donation to The Abbey of any size. A link to complete this portion of the registration is both at the top of the registration form and will be included in your registration confirmation.
